In a recent report from Football.London, it was stated that West Ham United could still bring in free agents in the January transfer window to bolster their options in the squad. It was also mentioned that Juan Mata and Diego Costa could be targetted since they remain without a club even after the transfer window ended on September 1.
Diego Costa and Juan Mata Compared
Now 33 years old, Costa has scored 59 goals and created 23 assists in 120 appearances for West Ham’s London rivals, helping them win the 2014/15 and 2016/17 Premier League titles during his time at Chelsea before moving to Atletico Madrid in 2018. In the 2021 campaign, he played for the Brazilian outfit Clube Atletico Mineiro where he managed to score 4 goals and create an assist in the Brazilian Serie A.
Juan Mata, on the other hand, has scored 51 goals and produced 64 assists over 278 Premier League appearances throughout his career. He played for Manchester United for the past six years putting in plenty of influential displays and impressive performances but now remains without a club after his contract with the Red Devils expired.

Should David Moyes Bring Either Of Them To West Ham United?
Both of them are decent options as they could provide cover in their respective areas. Diego Costa could add plenty of goals to the Hammers’ frontline whereas Juan Mata could bring in a lot of creativity to the midfield.
The Hammers spent over £150 million in the process of bolstering their squad to compete for a top-four place in the summer transfer window. However, despite bringing in various reinforcements they have failed to make headway. The East London club is currently in the 18th position on the Premier League table. Even if they regain their confidence and look to bounce back, it would be difficult to finish in the top four as the competition gets intense in the second half of the campaign.
So, Moyes should definitely look for decent players with experience to add more strength and firepower. Thus, Mata and Costa would make a brilliant addition to the squad as they could elevate the first team with their experience which the club lacks at the moment.
