In a recent report from Football.London, it was mentioned that Tottenham Hotspur are still hoping to get the signature of James Maddison in the January transfer window. It is understood that Leicester City’s playmaker had garnered a lot of attention from Newcastle United and Spurs in the summer transfer window but a move could not be finalised with the Foxes rejecting a £40 million bid from the Magpies. However, the Lilywhites have a high chance of acquiring the English midfielder in the next transfer window.
Maddison’s Run Of Form This Season
The talented midfielder fared brilliantly in his last campaign and has contributed four goals over six appearances for his side in the Premier League this season despite the Foxes struggling in the relegation places. He has found the back of the net on three occasions and created an assist as he continues to warrant interest in his services.
The Coventry-born sensation has done well to average 3.3 shots, 2.2 key passes, 0.5 interceptions and 1.7 tackles per game in league football. He has also been accurate with his ball distribution after completing 83% of his attempted passes in the English top flight(stats via whoscored).
Should Conte Bring Him To Tottenham Hotspur In January?
Maddison can make some dangerous runs down the right- flank using his pace and excellent ball control. He is an adept finisher inside the penalty box and can create some meaningful opportunities by setting up his teammates in front of the goal.
The English forward is primarily a right-sided wide player but remains versatile to feature anywhere on the right side of the final third. He likes playing behind the strikers and comes short to create space for his teammates to make runs in behind the opposition as he delivers some decisive passes to set them up in front of the goal.
He can add more creativity to the Spurs’ attack and would definitely bring more competition to the final third. However, Antonio Conte has several attackers at his disposal and adding another would pose difficulty over rotations as he would want to give more opportunities to better performers. This could, in turn, demotivate the players being left out as reserves and that could hamper the club’s mentality. So Conte should be wise to loan out a few players if he wishes to bring Maddison to North London.
