According to Football.London, Tottenham Hotspur fullback Destiny Udogie has been praised by his Udinese manager following a series of influential displays in the Serie A. It is understood that the young prospect was bought for a fee in the region of £20 million as he signed a five-year deal with the Lilywhites, being loaned out to his former team for the 2022-23 campaign.
Udogie’s Recent Form In The Italian First Division
Udogie has had a brilliant start this season as he has put in a series of dominant displays from the left flank. The left-wing back has found the back of the net on two occasions making six appearances for the Italian outfit this season.
The U-21 Italy international has performed consistently while showcasing his talents after averaging 3.0 tackles, 1.5 interceptions, 1.0 dribbles, 0.7 shots and 0.8 key passes in Serie A. He has also been accurate with his ball distribution after completing 85.4% of his attempted passes in the Italian top flight (stats via whoscored).
Good Decision From Tottenham Hotspur To Acquire Him This Summer?
The Azzuri youth international progressed through the academy ranks of Hellas Verona before landing in the senior team while only a teenager. His impressive loan spell with Udinese caught the eye of various clubs and the Italian side were willing to make a profit. Tottenham did well to identify his potential and Antonio Conte pushed them to make a bid for the youngster to win the race for him. They were successful with the purchase but Conte had several wing-backs at his disposal following Ivan Perisic’s arrival at North London and this posed a significant threat to his growth.
Udogie is a talented fullback who can make some dangerous overlapping runs down the left flank and he doesn’t hesitate to head into hard-bound tackles to make life difficult for the opposition. Furthermore, his exquisite dribbling ability and pace make him a decent fit for any squad.
His development was a major factor for Spurs to loan him back to his former club but they have been smart in acquiring a young prospect with so much potential as he could easily break into their senior squad over the coming years and his valuation would certainly bring them more profit if they decide to sell him in the foreseeable future.
