According to recent reports from Spain (via Manchester Evening News), Manchester United are keen on signing Ajax striker Brian Brobbey in the January transfer window as Erik Ten Hag looks set to add to his attacking options.
‘Elsewhere, a Spanish media report claims Ten Hag has identified Brian Brobbey as the player ‘he likes the most’ heading into the January transfer window.’ – The report read.
Erik Ten Hag tried to convince Brobbey to join Manchester United in the summer transfer window; however, a deal failed to materialise as the player believes that he has unfinished business at Ajax.
“Dream club? Manchester United. Erik sent me a message, yes, to congratulate me, and to tell me that he would like to have me at Manchester United. But I’m not finished at Ajax yet, I want to show something here first.” – he told Voetbal International.
“I absolutely wanted to go to Ajax. Erik also wanted to work with me, texted once if I was open to it, but I thanked him nicely. I wanted to go back. My friends here, Ajax’s playing style, it just wasn’t finished yet.
“I first have to really succeed here as a striker of Ajax. That’s also how the past six months felt, when I played here on a rental basis. I really had the feeling afterwards: I really have to go back. Believe me, in a few years I will provide a nice transfer fee for Ajax and then the club will have made a nice profit.”
The Dream Option For Ten Hag?
Having come through the ranks at Ajax, Brian Brobbey signed for RB Leipzig on a free transfer in the summer of 2021. After just six months in Germany, the Amsterdam-born forward was loaned back to Ajax, following which the Eredivisie champions re-signed him for a fee in the region of €16 million. The Dutchman has made 40 senior appearances in the Ajax shirt to date, scoring sixteen goals and assisting five more across all competitions.
Even this season, he has managed to put up some awe-inspiring numbers on the board – averaging 1.4 shots and 0.9 key passes per ninety minutes in the Dutch top-flight. Besides, with an average WhoScored rating of 7.08, he is one of the most promising talents in Europe.
Manchester United are in dire need of reinforcements in the striker’s department – and Brobbey fits the bill perfectly. Aged 20, he has plenty of time on his side and is already well accustomed to Ten Hag’s principles. Hence, the board should go all out for his signature in the upcoming transfer window.
