Atletico Madrid will face Porto in their first match of the UEFA Champions League group stages, as they welcome their visitors to Wanda Metropolitano on Wednesday night. Diego Simeone’s side comes into the match on the back of a 1-1 draw against Real Sociedad last weekend. However, they will be looking to come out stronger to start the opening round of their Champions League campaign.
Simeone will opt for the 3-5-2 formation with Ivo Grbic replacing Jan Oblak in goal as he picked up a groin problem in the previous fixture. Alvaro Morata and Joao Felix will continue to form a two-man striking partnership up front.
3-5-2 Atletico Madrid Predicted Line Up Vs Porto
Defence
Ivo Grbic will operate in between the sticks for the visitors. He would hope to put up a strong performance and secure a clean sheet on Wednesday. The three-man defence will include Stefan Gimenez, Witsel and Reinildo Mandava at the heart of Atletico’s backline. Their main objective would be to track and close down the potential openings Porto’s frontmen might create.
Nahuel Molina will start at the right wing-back spot, whereas Yannick Carrasco will fill in on the other flank as the left wing-back.
Midfield
Marcos Llorente, Rodrigo De Paul and Koke are expected to start in the central midfield positions. The latter would play more of a defensive role to shield the back three. The trio would be determined to set up some clear-cut goal-scoring chances for the frontmen.
Attack
Joao Felix and Alvaro Morata will form the two-man strike team. The duo would fancy their chances of finding the back of the net when they face off against Porto’s defence.
Antonio Greizman will take a spot on the bench and could come on in the latter stages to impact the game.
