Manchester United will lock horns with Arsenal at Old Trafford on Sunday evening, hoping to put an end to their winning run. The visitors will be coming into the match on the back of a 2-1 victory over Aston Villa, whereas the Red Devils recorded a narrow 1-0 win against Leicester City.
Let’s take a look at how things are shaping up ahead of the weekend clash.
Team News
Antony remains a doubt for the clash whereas Anthony Martial is still ruled out with an Achilles injury.
“Today (Thursday), he did his first training, so [an] individual [session].” – Ten Hag revealed. “Tomorrow (Friday), we have a team session and on Saturday we have a team session, so I will think about it and then we will take a decision.”
“It’s difficult to say when I talk about Luke Shaw and Aaron, but Anthony Martial will not be involved on Sunday.”
Flipping over to the visitors, Aaron Ramsdale, Martin Odegaard, and Oleksandr Zinchenko remain doubtful for the trip to Manchester.
“Those two [Aaron Ramsdale and Martin Odegaard] are being assessed, we will see more tomorrow. Hopefully they will be able to train with the team.” – Arteta stated in his pre-match press conference.
Unfortunately, with Alex [Zinchenko] that’s still not the case, he missed two games and has not been able to train with the team yet.”
Tactical Preview And Key Men
Having picked up all nine points in their last three games, The Red Devils will be heading into the contest full of confidence. The Varane-Martinez pairing in defence has provided Ten Hag with much-needed stability at the back, and Casemiro’s arrival has only added to the rigidity of the team. Needless to say, the trio of Casemiro-Eriksen-Fernandes will be expected to dominate the midfield proceedings; however, the lack of a focal point in the attack seems could be a matter of concern.
On the other hand, Mikel Arteta will be desperate to extend his winning streak to 6/6 on Sunday. The front three of Gabriel Jesus, Bukayo Saka, and Gabriel Martinelli are in excellent form; however, the absence of Thomas Partey could turn out to be a weak link in the midfield.
