In a recent interview with Marca, Udinese winger Gerard Deulofeu revealed that he wants to join Real Madrid. When asked about whether the Spaniard would be open to joining Los Blancos, he said,
“If they (Real Madrid) come, how are you going to say no?”
Deulofeu’s Impressive Run Of Form In Italian Football
The 28-year-old is having a promising season with Udinese as he has managed to perform at a high level for them in the final third. Deulofeu has banged in one goal and picked up six assists in eight appearances for the Italian club during this campaign across various competitions.
The former Barcelona youth player has been a consistent performer in Italy based on his average of 3.4 shots, 3.4 key passes, 1.6 crosses and 1.7 dribbles per 90 minutes in Serie A football. He has even linked up play relatively well on the attacking third of the pitch, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 79.4% in the Italian top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Dacia Arena will expire in the summer of 2024. Hence, Los Blancos might have a good shot at recruiting him on the cheap next year if they are interested in having an option like him up top.
Is Deulofeu A Good Option For Real Madrid Head Coach Carlo Ancelotti?
Deulofeu is proficient at creating a yard of space for himself to get a few strikes in at goal and has got the vision to create some decent openings for his teammates in the final third. The Spanish sensation remains a decent dribbler with the ball as well and has what it takes to serve as a good understudy to Karim Benzema at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium. He is primarily a centre-forward but can also play as a wide player on either flank if his manager tells him to do so.
We can expect Deulofeu to add more goals and creativity to Carlo Ancelotti‘s frontline. He is good enough to help Los Blancos continue their dominance in both domestic and European football in the coming seasons.
At 28, Deulofeu is currently playing at the prime stage of his playing career. Therefore, he is well-equipped to make an instant impact at the Madrid club if Ancelotti decides to make a move for him next year. With all things considered, Deulofeu will be a great option for Real Madrid to pursue in January or at the end of this campaign.
