Everton welcomed Liverpool at Goodison Park earlier today as they looked to secure a good result in the Merseyside derby. The Toffees made a decent start to the game and managed to get to the half-time break with a goalless scoreline.
Both Merseyside clubs went hammer and tongs in search of the victory in the second half but ended up canceling each other out. The match finished with Frank Lampard’s men earning a hard-fought 0-0 draw against their bitter rivals at home.
Let’s take a look at how each Everton player performed during the clash against the Reds.
GK: Jordan Pickford – 8/10
The English keeper made a lot of important saves at the back and was fortunate to keep his clean sheet intact.
RB: Nathan Patterson – 7/10
Patterson defended his penalty box really well and had one bright moment in the final third. It was a solid performance from him in this Merseyside derby.
CB: Conor Coady – 7/10
Coady made plenty of important clearances inside his half and was unfortunate to have his goal ruled out as off-side.
CB: James Tarkowski – 7.5/10
He didn’t hesitate to put his foot through the ball when needed and made a few crucial interceptions at the back.
LB: Vitaliy Mykolenko – 6.5/10
Mykolenko performed his defensive duties well but lacked the cutting edge in the final third.
CM: Tom Davies – 6.5/10
He was full of energy and running at the centre of the park. Davies was unlucky to hit the crossbar with his first-half attempt and was substituted after the hour mark in the derby.
CM: Amadou Onana – 7.5/10
Onana got stuck in with some solid tackles and made life really difficult for Liverpool in the middle of the pitch.
CM: Alex Iwobi – 6.5/10
He cleared his lines when required and engineered one good chance in the final third.
RW: Demarai Gray – 7/10
Gray had a few lively moments in the opponent’s half but lacked quality in front of the Liverpool goal.
ST: Neal Maupay – 6/10
He orchestrated some meaningful openings for others around him but wasted a handful of decent chances to score.
LW: Anthony Gordon – 6.5/10
The English attacker caused a few problems for the opposition defenders and deserves credit for getting himself into some promising positions in the final third. He ran out of gas and was replaced in the 81st minute.
Substitutes:
CM: Idrissa Gueye – 6.5/10
He added some energy to Everton’s midfield after coming off the bench.
RW: Dwight McNeil – N/A
McNeil didn’t get enough time to make an impact in the game.
