West Ham United locked horns with Aston Villa at Villa Park earlier today as they looked to grab their first victory of this Premier League campaign. The Hammers made a solid start to the game but were held to a scoreless draw at half-time.
Pablo Fornals finally made the breakthrough in the 74th minute when he found the back of the net with a great strike. The contest ended with David Moyes’ men earning a narrow 1-0 win on their travels.
Let’s take a look at how each West Ham United player performed during the match against the Villans.
GK: Łukasz Fabiański – 7/10
He made a few important stops at the back and earned a well-deserved clean sheet today.
CB: Thilo Kehrer – 6.5/10
The German defender made a couple of solid interceptions at the back and cleared the danger when needed.
CB: Kurt Zouma – 7/10
Zouma made a lot of crucial clearances inside his half and did enough to restrict the home team from scoring during the 90 minutes.
CB: Aaron Cresswell – 6.5/10
He defended his own penalty area well and was tidy with his passing as well.
RM: Ben Johnson – 6.5/10
He was solid when defending inside his half but had to be substituted in the 22nd minute.
CM: Tomas Soucek – 7/10
Soucek earned the ball back a few times and protected his backline really well. He made one key chance in the final third.
CM: Pablo Fornals – 8/10
The Spaniard did his fair share of defending and was quite lively in the final third. He popped up with the only goal of the game in the 74th minute which gave his team maximum points today.
CM: Declan Rice – 7/10
The English talent protected his backline well and engineered two good opportunities for his teammates to score.
LM: Emerson – 6/10
The Italian sensation didn’t do much wrong when defending at the back but could last only 45 minutes.
ST: Jarrod Bowen – 6.5/10
He came back to defend when needed but offered very little on the attacking third of the field. Bowen was often marked out of the game by the Villans.

Scamacca caused a few problems for the opposition but didn’t do enough to find the back of the net.
Substitutes:
RB: Vladimir Coufal – 6.5/10
Coufal produced a solid defensive display after coming on in the 22nd minute.
LM: Said Benrahma – 6.5/10

ST: Michail Antonio – 6/10
The English forward didn’t get a sniff at goal.
