In a recent report, The Evening Standard offered an update on the future of Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira. It is understood that the Gunners’ midfield ace is close to joining Galatasaray during this summer transfer window.
Torreira’s Recent Loan Spell At Fiorentina
Torreira had an up and down loan spell at Fiorentina last season when he struggled to be consistent with his overall contributions at the centre of the park. The 26-year-old did well to find the back of the net on five occasions and secure two assists in 35 matches for the Florence outfit in the previous campaign across multiple competitions.
The 39-time Uruguay international could only manage to average 1.2 tackles, 0.8 interceptions, 0.9 shots and 0.7 key passes per game in Serie A. He took care of the ball well when distributing possession from midfield, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 87.7% in the Italian first division (stats via whoscored).
Arsenal Midfielder Lucas Torreira Close To Joining Galatasaray: Good Move For Everyone Involved?
Torreira is a tough-tackling midfielder who can sense the danger quickly to earn the ball back for his side at the centre of the park. The Uruguayan talent can strike the ball with power from long range and can even engineer a few promising chances in the opposition half when he is playing well on the field. He is a good passer of the ball as well but has to find a way to improve his overall productivity in midfield.
At the moment, Torreira is not guaranteed regular playing opportunities at the Emirates Stadium as he has not performed well enough to get into Mikel Arteta‘s starting XI. Thus, it makes sense for the Gunners to cash in on him during this summer transfer window.
At 26, the Arsenal outcast is about to enter his prime, so he can benefit from switching clubs in search of greener pastures this month.
Things have just not worked out for the Uruguay international during his time with Arsenal so far. Hence, it will be a good move for both the player and the North London club to part ways with each other ahead of the new campaign.
