In a recent report from Football.London, it was stated that Tottenham Hotspur are showing firm interest in Anthony Gordon from Everton. They are closely monitoring the young winger as the Toffees reject a £45 million bid from Chelsea, with Gordon interested in playing under Antonio Conte but unwilling to leave his boyhood club at the moment.
Gordon’s Campaign With Everton In The Last Season
Gordon had a decent campaign as he saved the Toffees from relegation in the final weeks producing several influential displays in the final third. He registered 4 goals and 2 assists over 40 appearances in the last season.
The Liverpool-born sensation performed consistently as he established himself as one of the key players for the Merseyside club under Frank Lampard after averaging 1.3 shots, 1.0 key passes and 1.1 dribbles per game in the Premier League. However, he barely managed to distribute the ball proficiently after completing 74.2% of his attempted passes in the English top-flight (stats via whoscored).
How Does He Fit Into Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur?
Anthony Gordon excels at creating a yard of space for himself and doesn’t mind taking a shot at the goal from a distance. He can make a few decent runs down the left flank creating some meaningful chances in the final third. The youngster can also set up his teammates with a few key passes in front of the goal.
The 21-year-old is primarily a left-attacking midfielder but can play anywhere over the frontline when required, and this versatility makes him a decent fit for Antonio Conte. There is still room left in the squad as Conte looks to bring in more competition to the left-wing position.
Gordon’s addition to the Lilywhites would provide cover for Heung Min Son and Dejan Kulusevski as he remains comfortable playing on either side of the flank. He could develop under Conte’s physically demanding playstyle and prove to be an attacking threat in the foreseeable future. The English forward would make an excellent long-term investment for the North London club if they can bring him in this season.
