In a recent report, The Evening Standard stated that Tottenham Hotspur have joined the race to land Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah. It is understood that Spurs could face competition from AS Roma and Inter Milan in pursuit of the English centre-back.
Chalobah’s Solid Run Of Form At West London
Chalobah has enjoyed a decent rise at Stamford Bridge under the stewardship of Thomas Tuchel recently. The English sensation has already made 30 senior appearances for the Blues so far, scoring four times and grabbing two assists across various competitions.
The 23-year-old gave a good account of himself on the defensive end of the pitch as he averaged 2.0 tackles, 1.0 interceptions and 2.1 clearances per 90 minutes in Premier League football last season. He was even accurate when distributing the ball from the back after making 90.6% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the West London club is set to run out in the summer of 2026. Hence, Spurs would find it difficult to sign him on the cheap before the end of this transfer window.
Is Chalobah A Good Choice For Tottenham Hotspur Boss Antonio Conte?
Chalobah can time his tackles well inside his half and can make a few important interceptions for his side. He doesn’t take too many risks when clearing the danger at the back. Standing at 1.90m, the English centre-back is a towering presence on the defensive end of the pitch and can be a real handful in the air. He is even proficient at playing his way out from the back and can even use his strong frame to pull off a few last-ditch blocks inside his penalty box.
Someone of Chalobah’s skillset would no doubt enhance the quality of Tottenham‘s backline. Antonio Conte has got the luxury to offer him regular playing minutes at the North London club.
The Italian tactician has often preferred to play with a back three which would suit Chalobah’s playing style well. Hence, the Chelsea defensive ace would be a great choice for Spurs to consider during this summer transfer window as he won’t take any time settling into life at Tottenham.
At 23, Chalobah will only get better in the coming seasons, so Conte should focus on trying everything in his power to lure him to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium before the end of this month. He could even help Spurs challenge for some major trophies in the future.
