In a recent report from Football.London, it was mentioned that Cristiano Ronaldo has offered himself to Chelsea and has put the brakes on any potential Napoli move in what could have been a swap deal with Victor Osimhen. The five times Ballon D’Or winner remains reluctant to play for Manchester United and hopes that Thomas Tuchel will consider him if they fail to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Barcelona.
Ronaldo’s Impressive Campaign For Manchester United Last Season
Ronaldo had a successful spell at Old Trafford last season after he produced some solid displays being the focal point of United’s attack. He scored 18 goals and produced three assists over 30 appearances last season, proving that he’s still a world-class finisher.
The 189 time Portugal international is showing no signs of stopping in his tracks as he averaged 3.8 shots, 1.3 key passes and 2.0 dribbles per game in the Premier League. He has also been tidy with his ball distribution after completing 85.7% of his attempted passes in the top tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
Should Tuchel Bring Him To Chelsea?
Arguably one the world’s best footballer, he has been through a series of disappointments with the clubs he has played for recently. A last-minute agreement to sign for Manchester United in the previous summer transfer window paved his way back to the Red Devils. However, despite Ronaldo performing at his best, the club did not achieve their goals and found themselves struggling to secure a top-four finish at the end of the previous campaign.
At 37, he hasn’t failed to impress the football world with the way he’s performing, the Portuguese striker was the top scorer at Old Trafford and he is certainly very reliable in the final third. However, the superstar has been rumoured to be a part of Erik Ten Hag’s long-term plans upon his arrival.
The Blues are in dire need of a striker after the exit of Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner recently. Thus, Ronaldo would be a better alternative compared to Aubameyang. Chelsea were heavily linked to CR7 earlier this summer but Tuchel did not make any admissions for a deal since he believed that the Portuguese international did not fit the profile. But with the urgent need for a frontman, the German tactician could very well make an offer if the Aubameyang deal doesn’t come through.
