In a recent report, Fichajes stated that Real Madrid have cooled their interest in Chelsea forward Timo Werner. It is understood that Los Blancos might not move in for the German international during this summer transfer period.
Werner’s Up And Down Season At Stamford Bridge
Werner failed to earn regular playing opportunities under Thomas Tuchel’s stewardship last season but deserves credit for putting in a series of fruitful displays in the final third. The 26-year-old banged in 11 goals and earned six assists in 37 appearances for the Blues in the previous campaign across various competitions.
The German talent was a bit inconsistent with his offensive contributions as he averaged 2.1 shots and 0.5 dribbles per game in the Premier League. He was even careful when distributing possession in the opponent’s half after completing 78.2% of his attempted passes in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).
Real Madrid Cools Interest In Werner: Good Decision By Los Blancos?
Werner can use his pace to make a few dangerous runs with the ball in the attacking end of the pitch. He can be a decent finisher up top when he is operating with confidence in the opposition half. Werner has mostly played as a left-sided attacker in Tuchel’s first XI but can even play as a centre-forward or as a right-sided wide player if needed.
The German sensation excels at creating space for himself to get some shots in at goal but needs to be more consistent with his productivity in front of the opponent’s goal.
At the moment, Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti doesn’t have the luxury to offer him regular game time in La Liga due to the excellent form of Karim Benzema.
Hence, it is no surprise that Los Blancos have decided to cool their interest in the Chelsea attacker. He is too inconsistent with his offensive contributions and could struggle to give a good account of himself at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium. All in all, the Madrid giants have made a good decision by opting against signing Werner during this summer transfer window.
