Rangers were in high spirits after a stellar midweek victory against Royale Union Saint-Gilloise in the Champions League third qualifying round. They hosted St Johnstone this afternoon, and the contest was a stroll in the park with a 4-0 win at Ibrox.
Below are the Rangers players rated in their win against the Saints.
Jon McLaughlin: 7
Was hardly tested between the sticks as the Gers ‘number 1’ had little trouble en route to clinching a clean sheet.
James Tavernier: 8
His relentless runs and crosses into the final third kept on causing menace in the visitors’ backline. Assisted Tillman for the opening goal and posed a constant threat with his link-up play and aggression.
Connor Goldson: 7.5
Had an effort denied by Remi Matthews in the Saints’ goal. His long balls lacked accuracy at times and the tackles were rusty, but the veteran centre-half was spot on with his recoveries and duels in deep defence.
Ben Davies: 8
Was handed a start ahead of James Sands. Excellent with his passing game as he showed great ability in terms of playing it out from the back. Got replaced by Leon King late in the game.
Borna Barisic: 7.5
Lively down the left as he not only created chances with his overlapping runs but also defended deep to deny the potential counter-attacking movements.
John Lundstram: 8
Forced Matthews to make a majestic save minutes before Tillman’s opener. Another exquisite display by the Englishman who dominated the midfield game all throughout. Was taken off to be replaced by Glen Kamara late in the fixture.
Ryan Jack: 7.5
A much-improved performance after a few underwhelming outings. Controlled the pace, regained possession and carried the ball forward to operate in the advanced areas.
Scott Wright: 7
Worked hard down the wide with his dribbles and duels. Still needs to work on his decision-making in the final third. Made way for Scott Arfield midway through the second half.
Malik Tillman: 8.5
Another brilliant header from the youngster following his winner against Union SG earlier this week. Exquisite with his dribbling attempts, swift skills and footwork in and around the St Johnstone box. Was taken off for Tom Lawrence midway through the second half.
Rabbi Matondo: 9
The away side had no answer to the Welshman’s pace and prowess down the flank. His brilliant strike smashed off the crossbar minutes after the break, but he set it up beautifully for both Colak and Arfield to seal the deal for the Light Blues.
Antonio Colak: 8
The scoring streak continues for the Croatian, who made no mistake in doubling the lead with a powerful effort. Looked more involved than before, even though he did not have as many touches as his teammates before making way for Alfredo Morelos.
Rangers Subs Vs St Johnstone
Scott Arfield: 8.5
The Gers’ ‘super sub’ made a crucial impact by scoring and assisting with 10 minutes remaining.
Alfredo Morelos: 7
Still not fit enough to start after a long injury layoff. But the Colombian is regaining his momentum ahead of yet another long and busy campaign.
Tom Lawrence: 8
Grabbed Arfield’s pass and found the target to make it 4-0 with minutes remaining.
Glen Kamara: NA
Played too little to warrant a rating.
Leon King: NA
Played too little to warrant a rating.
