In a recent report, Sky Sports mentioned that Manchester United are deciding whether to pursue Benjamin Sesko of RB Salzburg. It is understood that they have held initial talks with the Austrian outfit but discussions highlighted that there seems to be a valuation gap between the two clubs over the striker’s price.
Sesko’s Campaign For Salzburg Last Season
Benjamin Sesko enjoyed a breakthrough season in his last campaign as he impressed while scoring 11 goals and creating six assists in just 12 appearances in the Austrian Bundesliga.
The 19-year-old has already made 13 international appearances for Slovenia, proving his potential. He also produced an impressive display against Liverpool in the pre-season last week as he scored the only goal of the match (stats via whoscored).
Should Ten Hag Bring Him To Manchester United?
Sesko remains a decent finisher inside the penalty box. He can create space for himself and convert opportunities provided to him in front of the goal. The Slovenian striker stands at 1.94 meters, his tall frame helps him dominate his opponents in the air during set-piece situations. He plays as the target man in the striker position but does not have any versatility to play in other areas of the attacking third.
Cristiano Ronaldo is a guaranteed starter for the Red Devils in the frontline and Erik Ten Hag has brought over Lisandro Martinez to play as a second striker or on either of the flanks. Therefore, Sesko would only find himself coming off the bench to create an impact when required.
However, Man United could loan him to other clubs and monitor his development until they decide to call him back to the first team and offer him a position at Old Trafford. Acquiring such bright young talents could be beneficial for the club in the near future, so the former Ajax boss should do well to bring him over ahead of the next campaign.
