Recent reports from Spanish media outlet MARCA state that Manchester United are keen on signing Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro in the ongoing transfer window as Erik Ten Hag looks set to add to his options at the centre of the park.
The Brazilian international is considering the offer thoroughly before coming to a conclusion as the Red Devils have offered almost double the wages compared to Real Madrid.
‘Casemiro has not ruled out a possible departure. He is studying everything that is taking place at Manchester United and analysing in detail whether the English club will be able to recover their splendour soon.’ – The translated version of the report read.
‘Casemiro has received calls from many teams in recent months, but all from less interesting destinations than Manchester United. On this occasion, it’ll come with a significant financial proposal, one which would be difficult to turn down.’
Despite three years remaining on his present contract at the Santiago Bernabeu, the La Liga champions won’t stop the player from fulfilling his wishes if their asking price of 80 million Euros is met in the coming weeks.
Having come through the ranks at Brazilian club Sao Paolo, Casemiro signed for Real Madrid from FC Porto in the summer of 2015 for a fee in the region of £6.3 million. Over the course of the last eight years at the Spanish capital, Casemiro has made 336 appearances for Los Blancos – thereby establishing himself as an undisputed starter in Real’s midfield. Having won a whooping 18 trophies – including five Champions League titles – it goes without saying that the 30-year-old is one of the best midfielders in the world at present.
However, with the recent recruitments of Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga, the competition for a starting place in Madrid’s midfield has gotten much more challenging. Hence, the prospect of being one of the first names on United’s team sheet week in and week out is also tempting the Brazilian international.
The Dream Option For Ten Hag?
Manchester United spent the entire summer chasing Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong without a ‘Plan B’ to fall back to. As a result, Erik Ten Hag was forced to start the 2022/23 season with the infamous Mc-Fred midfield duo, and it would be an understatement to say that their performances have been pathetic so far.
While Casemiro’s profile is very different from that of de Jong’s, Manchester United fans are in no place to complain as the 5-times Champions League winner would be a colossal upgrade on any of their current midfield options.
Hence, the board should go all out to secure his signature in the coming days.
