In a recent report, Football.London mentioned that Manchester City are plotting a move to get back at Arsenal as they show a keen interest in Kieran Tierney. It is understood that the fullback’s contract with the Gunners is set to expire in 2026, but first-team opportunities might be difficult with the arrival of Oleksandr Zinchenko, and the Sky Blues could lure him into Etihad Stadium for the same reason.
Tierney’s Injury-Plagued Campaign For Arsenal Last Season
Kieran Tierney was having a solid campaign with the Gunners until a devastating knee injury made him sidelined for the last ten games in the Premier League. He managed to score a goal and create three assists over 22 appearances last season.
The Scotland international helped his side secure a top-five finish by making the most out of his appearances after averaging 0.9 key passes, 0.8 tackles, 0.7 interceptions and 2.2 clearances per game in the English first division.
He was also tidy with his ball distribution after completing 82.5% of his attempted passes in the English top-flight (stats via whoscored).
Should Guardiola Bring Him To Manchester City?
Tierney is a solid tackler of the ball; he can track back with ease and can make some clever interceptions to win the ball back for his side. The Scottish defender excels at holding on to the ball and can make some dangerous runs down the left flank.
The 25-year-old produced some impressive displays and guided the Gunners to a top-five finish which has caught the eye of Guardiola as he looks for a decent replacement after Zinchenko’s exit.
His arrival would take the pressure off of Joao Cancelo, who’s providing cover in the left-back position even though he prefers playing on the opposite flank. If the Scotsman does well to avoid injuries in this next campaign, he could go on to establish himself as a key player for the Mancunian giants. So a move away would be beneficial for the Arsenal man as it’ll offer him lots of football at the Etihad Stadium.
The Spanish tactician should do well to make a lucrative offer for Tierney as he could add more depth to the Sky Blues with plenty of matches to play for this season.
