According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester City have reportedly offered a huge new contract to Bernardo Silva in hopes of keeping him at Etihad Stadium this season and reiterating his commitment to the Sky Blues. It is understood that the new contract would bring him behind Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland in terms of wages. He would be the third highest-paid player in Man City if he does not move away.
Silva’s Campaign For Manchester City Last Season
Silva had an impressive campaign last season as he managed to produce some master-class displays for the Sky Blues helping them win their fourth title in the last five years. He made 50 appearances for Man City last season as he found the back of the net on 13 occasions and produced seven assists across all fronts.
The Lison-born talent performed consistently on the attacking end of the field as he averaged 1.3 shots, 1.7 key passes, 1.6 tackles, 0.5 interceptions and 1.5 dribbles per game in the Premier League. He was also efficient with his ball distribution, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 89.6% in the English top-flight (stats via whoscored).
Right Call From Guardiola?
Silva has been a key man for Guardiola in the midfield department and by offering him a new contract, the Spanish tactician has made it prevalent that he wishes for him to stay at the Etihad. Manchester City will be defending the title this season and are also on the run for the Champions League trophy, so the Portuguese midfielder would have plenty of football and will also be expected to perform at his best.
The 28-year-old has the ability to move out of tight spaces and he remains proficient at distributing the ball to his teammates while having the vision to make some decisive passes. He excels in holding on to the ball and roaming the final third to create some decent chances in front of the goal.
Pep Guardiola has done well to state that he does not want to lose him in this transfer window as he sees him being a vital part of his side’s future.
