In a recent report from Sports illustrated, it is mentioned that Manchester City have explored the possibilities of signing Raphael Guerreiro. It is understood that the Sky Blues have prioritised signing Marc Cucurella, but since their valuation falls short of Brighton’s demands, the Etihad club has decided to stop pursuing him. The Mancunian giants are now looking for alternatives.
Guerreiro’s impressive Campaign For Borussia Dortmund Last Season
Guerreiro had a solid campaign last season as he produced some impressive displays on the left flank of Dortmund’s defensive department. He managed to score five goals and create three assists over 27 appearances for the German outfit in the previous campaign across multiple competitions.
The France-born sensation performed consistently in the left-back position based on his averages of 1.5 tackles, 1.1 interceptions, 1.4 shots, 1.2 key passes and 1.1 dribbles per game in the Bundesliga. He was even accurate with his ball distribution after completing 85.5% of his attempted passes in the German top flight (stats via whoscored).
Should Guardiola Bring Him To Manchester City?
Pep Guardiola requires a defensive reinforcement to fill the gap left by Oleksandr Zinchenko’s departure to Arsenal. The Spaniard has shed light on the situation showing confidence in Joao Cancelo’s ability to handle the problem position. However, an injury setback could put a lot of pressure on the defensive department.
Truthfully, Man City have lacked in the left-back area and we’ve seen a couple of changes in that position as the Sky Blues have failed to acquire an ideal full-back to provide a permanent solution. The Etihad club’s number one choice remains in Seagulls’ most prized asset but they’ve met with some roadblocks over their valuation of the Spanish left-back, and Brighton are reluctant to let him go for any less than £50 million.
Guerreiro has fared well in the Bundesliga and has the attributes to become a regular starter in the left-back position for Manchester City as a better alternative to Cucurella, so Guardiola should do well to make an offer even though it won’t be easy to lure the Portugal international over to Etihad Stadium.
