Leeds United entertained Barnsley at Elland Road earlier tonight as they looked to earn a positive result in the second round of the EFL Cup. The Whites made a bright start to the game and got their noses ahead in the 21st minute courtesy of Luis Sinisterra’s excellent strike. Mateusz Klich doubled Leeds’ advantage from the penalty spot just 11 minutes later. However, the visitors got a goal back via Mads Juel Andersen’s header as the Yorkshire giants went into the half-time interval 2-1 up on the scoreline.
Klich scored again in the 56th minute with a right-footed strike to put Leeds in a commanding position in the match. Jesse Marsch’s men ended up cruising to an impressive 3-1 win at home.
Let’s take a look at how each Leeds United player performed during the match against Barnsley.
GK: Illan Meslier – 6.5/10
The Whites goalkeeper had to make just one save in the game but won’t be pleased after failing to keep a clean sheet.
RB: Cody Drameh – 7/10
He was strong in the air and got stuck in with some solid tackles. He even had a couple of lively moments in the opponent’s half.
CB: Diego Llorente – 6.5/10
The Spaniard earned the ball back a couple of times and won a few aerial duels in the first half. He got replaced at half-time.
CB: Liam Cooper – 6/10
He tried his best to keep things solid at the back and was accurate with his passing. Cooper got substituted at half-time.
LB: Leo Hjelde – 6.5/10
Hjelde did well to fill in as a left-back. He cleared the danger when needed but offered very little in the final third.
CM: Sam Greenwood – 6.5/10
He made two good runs with the ball but failed to create anything of note in the opposition half.
CM: Adam Forshaw – 6/10
Forshaw secured the ball back once and completed a couple of energetic dribbles from midfield.
CM: Mateusz Klich – 8/10
Klich was unstoppable in the final third and has got two goals to show for his efforts. He deserves to be named the man of the match.
RW: Crysencio Summerville – 7/10
He was a bright spark down the right flank but failed to register a goal.
ST: Joe Gelhardt – 6/10
Gelhardt was quiet for most of the game and hardly got a sniff at goal.
LW: Luis Sinisterra – 7.5/10
He opened the goal-scoring with a great strike. However, Sinisterra could only last 61 minutes.
Substitutes:
CB: Robin Koch – 6.5/10
Koch earned the ball back once and cleared his lines when required in the second half.
LB: Pascal Struijk – 6.5/10
He did his fair share of defending at the back.
CM: Marc Roca – 6/10
The Spanish talent added more bite and steel to Leeds’ backline.
RM: Daniel James – 6/10
He offered very little after coming off the bench.
ST: Rodrigo – 6/10
Rodrigo had a couple of bright moments in the final third.
