Everton clashed heads with Fleetwood Town at Highbury Stadium earlier tonight as they looked to secure a positive result on the road in the second round of the EFL Cup. The Toffees made a good start to the game and got their noses ahead in the 28th minute courtesy of Demarai Gray’s right-footed goal. The Merseyside club sat on their lead well and managed to get to the half-time break 1-0 up on the scoreline.
Frank Lampard’s men were solid in the second half and deserves credit for grinding out a 1-0 win away from home.
Let’s take a look at how each Everton player performed during the match against Fleetwood Town.
GK: Asmir Begovic – 7.5/10
The Toffees goalie made a few important saves at the back and secured an impressive clean sheet tonight.
RB: Nathan Patterson – 7/10
Patterson was solid at the back and was a real threat in the opponent’s half. However, he lasted only 63 minutes before being taken off.
CB: Seamus Coleman – 6.5/10
He was good on the ball and made a couple of crucial clearances on the defensive third of the field.
CB: Michael Keane – 7/10
Keane cleared the danger when needed and made a couple of decent turns with the ball from the back.
CB: Reece Welch – 6.5/10
He was not afraid to put his foot through the ball and would be happy after getting some valuable playing time under his belt.
LB: Ruben Vinagre – 6/10
He struggled to make an impact in both halves and produced a lackluster display on the left flank.
CM: Dwight McNeil – 6.5/10
McNeil caused a few headaches for the opposition but failed to find the back of the net.
CM: Alex Iwobi – 8/10
Iwobi ran the show at the centre of the park and engineered some promising chances in the final third. He ended the game with an assist to his name.
CM: Amadou Onana – 7.5/10
The Belgian talent anchored the midfield with conviction and was a threat going forward.
ST: Demarai Gray – 7.5/10
Gray was a constant menace in the final third and scored the only goal of the game in the 28th minute.
ST: Salomon Rondon – 6/10
He was quiet for most of the game and never looked like he had a goal in him.
Substitutes:
CB: James Tarkowski – 6/10
Tarkowski added more bite and steel to Lampard’s defence.
CM: Lewis Warrington – 6.5/10
He made one good chance in the final third.
CAM: Stanley Mills – 6/10
Mills hardly got a chance to score.
