Aubameyang’s Impressive Form At The Nou Camp Last Season
Since joining from Arsenal back in January, Aubameyang has managed to establish himself as a prolific forward at the Nou Camp. However, the recent arrival of Robert Lewandowski has forced him to settle for a spot on Xavi’s bench this season.
The Gabon talent scored 13 times and picked up one assist in 24 appearances for Barca so far across various competitions. Aubameyang did well to average 2.2 shots and 0.5 key passes per game in La Liga. The 33-year-old was even tidy with his link-up play on the attacking end of the field after he completed 75.5% of his attempted passes in the Spanish top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract with Barca is set to run out in the summer of 2025. Still, the Catalan club’s need to make more room in their wage bill could open the door for the Blues to land him this summer.
Should Chelsea Head Coach Thomas Tuchel Get Aubameyang On Board This Month?
Aubameyang has a wealth of experience at the highest level and can lead the line relatively well on his own up top. The Gabon marksman fits Chelsea’s current needs perfectly as he is still a prolific forward who can create space for himself to get a few strikes in on target. He can even contribute by picking up the odd assist from time to time.
The Blues are in dire need of a new forward following the loan exit of Romelu Lukaku earlier this summer. We can expect Aubameyang to add a lot of firepower to Thomas Tuchel‘s attack. He could even help the West London club challenge for top honours this season.
However, at 33, the Barcelona forward will only be a short-term fix to Chelsea‘s goal-scoring problems. Still, there is no doubt about his quality and goal-scoring ability which makes him a good, short-term option for Tuchel to pursue before the end of this month. Plus, Aubameyang is versatile enough to play as a left-winger as well.
Hence, he could be a useful member of Tuchel’s squad over the next 12 months. With all things considered, Chelsea would be wise to get Aubameyang on board during this summer transfer window.
