In a recent report, Mundo Deportivo claimed that Barcelona have set their sights on Villarreal defender Juan Foyth. It has been mentioned that the Catalan giants have identified the Argentine right-back as a target for this summer transfer window.
Foyth’s Impressive Form In Spanish Football Last Season
Foyth had a solid campaign with the Yellow Submarine recently as he put in a run of dominant displays for them on the defensive third of the field. The South American sensation registered one goal and one assist in 38 matches for the Spanish club last season in all competitions.
The 24-year-old was a rock at the back based on his average of 2.8 tackles, 0.8 interceptions and 1.7 clearances per game in La Liga. He even took care of possession well when playing his way out from the back, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 84.3% in the top tier of Spanish football (stats via whoscored).
Foyth’s current contract at the Estadio de la Cerámica is set to expire in the summer of 2026, so it won’t be easy for Barca to lure him away to the Nou Camp this summer.
Is Foyth A Good Choice For Barcelona?
Foyth is a good tackler of the ball and can sense the danger quickly to earn the ball back for his team on the defensive third of the pitch. He usually clears the danger when needed and can make a few encouraging runs with the ball from the back. Foyth is primarily a right-back but can even fill in as a centre-back if his manager asks him to do so.
At the moment, the Argentine talent is playing some of the best football of his playing career. Hence, it is no surprise that Barcelona are trying to get him on board before the end of this ongoing transfer window.
At 24, Foyth will only get better in the coming seasons which makes him a decent, long-term choice for the Catalan giants during this summer transfer period.
The Argentine sensation will inject more bite and steel into Xavi‘s defence and could help Barca close the gap to Real Madrid at the top of the La Liga table. Therefore, Xavi should consider orchestrating a move to bring Foyth to the Nou Camp this month. He has got a wealth of experience in Spanish football and has got the skillset to be a real asset for Barcelona over the next few years.
