In a recent segment on Youtube, CBS Sports Golazo journalist Ben Jacobs mentioned that Aston Villa wanted to sign Tottenham Hotspur ace Tanguy Ndombele back in January. Jacobs said,
“There has been no source from the Premier League who has said they are interested in the player at this stage.
“The only club who I can tell you made an enquiry in January with a view to this window was Aston Villa.
“But they haven’t materialised or advanced that in any way, shape or form. If he goes, and I think that’s likely, I see him leaving the Premier League.”
Ndombele’s Encouraging Loan Spell In France
Ndombele recently had a decent six-month loan spell with Olympique Lyonnais as he managed to produce a few impressive performances at the heart of their midfield. The French midfield ace picked up a couple of assists in 11 matches for Lyon in Ligue 1.
The 25-year-old deserves some credit for averaging 2.3 tackles, 0.8 key passes and 1.5 dribbles per game in the French top-flight. He was even accurate with his ball distribution after making 89.2% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
Should Aston Villa Boss Steven Gerrard Go Back In For Ndombele?
Ndombele can get stuck in with some solid tackles to make life tough for the opposition at the centre of the park. He has got the vision to cut open the opposition defence with a decisive pass and can even make a few clever runs with the ball towards the opponent’s penalty area.
The French playmaker can retain possession well in midfield but is currently not a regular starter at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The Villans can definitely use someone of Ndombele’s quality to strengthen their midfield for the future. The French talent has what it takes to become a success story at Villa Park as long as he can ensure regular playing time in the coming seasons.
However, Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard could struggle to agree on a fee for him this summer. Still, the Villans should consider going back in for Ndombele if they have got the funds to pull off such a transfer during this summer transfer window.
