In a recent interview with Give Me Sport, journalist Pete O’Rourke urged Aston Villa to seal a move for Rangers winger Ryan Kent this summer. O’Rourke said,
“I think we saw the best of Ryan Kent under Steven Gerrard and I’m sure Gerrard would be confident that he would get the best out of Kent as well if he was able to bring them to Aston Villa.
“He’s a potential game changer, Ryan Kent, on his day, a really skilful, tricky winger who can score goals, create goals as well. So I’m sure it’d be a signing that would excite the fans as well with this style of play. I think it could be a win-win situation.”
Kent’s Impressive Numbers In Scottish Football Last Season
Kent had a productive campaign at the Ibrox Stadium recently after producing several influential performances on the left side of Rangers’ attack. The 25-year-old scored three times and secured 20 assists in 46 matches for the Glaswegian club last season in multiple competitions.
The former Liverpool talent was a consistent performer in the final third based on his average of 2.5 shots, 1.8 key passes and 2.1 dribbles per game in the Scottish Premiership. He was even careful when distributing possession in the opponent’s half, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 86.5% in the Scottish top-flight (stats via whoscored).
Should Aston Villa Boss Steven Gerrard Get Kent On Board This Summer?
Kent can use his quickness and agility to get the better of his marker out on the wide areas. He has also got the eye to play a killer pass in the attacking end of the field and can strike the ball with power and accuracy from long range.
The Oldham-born wing wizard made a habit of picking up regular assists at the Ibrox last season but needs to add a few more goals to his game in the future.
Currently, Aston Villa can definitely use someone of Kent’s skillset to bolster their attack. Gerrard knows the player well from their time together at Rangers and would be the ideal man to get the best out of him at Villa Park in the coming seasons.
At 25, Kent’s peak years are ahead of him which makes him a decent choice for the Villans to consider during this summer transfer period. He will undoubtedly add more pace and creativity to Gerrard’s attack, so the West Midlands club should try everything they can to get Kent on board this summer.
