In a recent report, Foot Mercato mentioned that Aston Villa are among clubs looking to sign Tottenham Hotspur ace Tanguy Ndombele. It has been revealed that the Villans could face competition from Nottingham Forest, Everton and a few other clubs in pursuit of the French midfielder.
Ndombele’s Encouraging Loan Spell At Lyon
Ndombele had a decent loan spell at Olympique Lyonnais in the previous campaign as he produced a few promising performances for them at the centre of the park. The 25-year-old found the back of the net once and grabbed two assists in 14 matches for Lyon last season across various competitions.
The French sensation managed to contribute by averaging 2.3 tackles, 0.8 key passes and 1.5 dribbles per game in the Ligue 1. He was even accurate when distributing possession from midfield, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 89.2% in the top tier of French football (stats via whoscored).
The talented midfield ace’s current contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is set to expire in the summer of 2025. Hence, the Villans would have to make a sizable offer if they want to bring Ndombele to Villa Park before the end of this summer transfer window.
Is Ndombele A Decent Fit For Aston Villa Head Coach Steven Gerrard?
Ndombele is a tough-tackling midfielder who has got the energy to make life difficult for the opposition at the centre of the park. He has got the vision to create some decent chances for others around him and can make a few powerful runs with the ball towards the opponent’s penalty box. Ndombele is primarily a box-to-box midfielder but can even fill in as a defensive midfielder or play as an attacking midfielder in the number ten position if needed.
The French sensation hardly gives away the ball cheaply but is yet to prove his worth as a reliable performer in Premier League football.
Still, Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard can definitely benefit from recruiting someone of Ndombele’s skillset during this summer transfer window. He will add more energy and dynamism to the Midlands club’s midfield department and could help them push for a top-half finish in the English top-flight this season.
At 25, Ndombele’s best years are ahead of him which makes him a decent fit for the Villans this summer. However, Gerrard should only move in for him if he is willing to offer the player regular playing opportunities at Villa Park in the coming seasons.
