According to recent reports, Football.london believes that West Ham United are showing keen interest in Eintracht Frankfurt’s left wing-back, Filip Kostic, in this summer transfer window.
It has also been mentioned that the Europa League Player of the Season award winner could be valued at £8 million. The Hammers are on a hunt for a versatile wing-back, and Kostic could be lured in an attempt to strengthen their squad.
Kostic’s Impressive Campaign At Eintracht Frankfurt This Season
The Serbia international has had a solid campaign at the Deutsche Bank Park, scoring 7 goals and creating 13 assists this season across all competitions.
He has given a good account of himself, averaging 1.4 tackles, 0.5 interceptions, 0.6 clearances, 1.6 shots and 2.8 key passes per 90 mins in the Bundesliga. He has been decent when distributing the ball, making 69.7% of his attempted passes in German top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
What Could He Bring To West Ham United?
Filip Kostic is quick on deducing impending danger and positions himself exceptionally well when on the back foot. He can make some decent runs on the left flank and has a wide array of crossing abilities to create opportunities inside the opponent’s penalty box. He is primarily a left-defensive midfielder but remains versatile enough to play as a left-sided wide midfielder or in the left-back position if needed.
At 29, the veteran midfielder still has a few years left in him to play at a high level. Moyes would be wise to pursue his signature as his calibre and experience could make a difference in their run for a top-four finish.
Kostic could make way into West Ham’s starting XI providing cover for Aaron Cresswell or Pablo Fornals. Acquiring the Serbian midfielder would be difficult as Frankfurt compete in the Champions League next season but the East London club’s offer may be lucrative. David Moyes could make a move to see if Frankfurt are willing to let him go for the right price.
