In a recent report Football.London stated that West Ham United are interested in signing Maxwel Cornet from Burnley. It is understood that the Hammers would have to pay around £20 million to acquire his signature ahead of the next campaign.
Cornet’s Run Of Form For Burnley Last Season
While the Clarets failed to impress last season before being relegated to the Championship, Cornet looked to impress as he produced some impressive displays in the left-wing position. He scored 9 goals and created one assist over 26 appearances in his last campaign.
The Ivory Coast international almost scored a quarter of Burnley’s league goals last season, performing consistently after averaging 1.8 shots, 0.6 key passes and 0.5 dribbles per game in the Premier League. He did well in distributing possession as he completed 70.6% of his attempted passes in the English top flight (stats via whoscored).
Should West Ham United Boss David Moyes Make A Move?
Cornet is a decent finisher in front of the goal. He can make a few decent runs down the left flank to create space for himself and deliver crosses inside the penalty box. The Ivorian winger doesn’t mind taking a shot at the goal from a distance.
The 25-year-old’s versatility makes him a good pick as he can feature anywhere on the left flank and also as a centre-forward. He can play on either side of the wing as well if required. This is the reason why David Moyes has identified him as a potential target, as he could provide cover in various positions.
Singing Cornet could be an alternative option for the Hammers rather than landing a deal for Eintracht Frankfurt’s Filip Kostic. West Ham can easily splash out £20 million for Cornet if they choose to bring him to London Stadium this off-Season.
