In a recent report, Sport1 provided an update on the future of Chelsea forward Timo Werner this summer. It is believed that the German attacker ‘doesn’t feel comfortable’ at Stamford Bridge and could part ways with the Blues during this summer transfer period.
Werner’s Impressive Form In German Football
Werner failed to be consistent with his offensive contributions last season but did well to catch the eye at times in the final third. The German international made 37 appearances for the West London club in the previous campaign, finding the back of the net on 11 occasions and earning six assists across all competitions.
The 26-year-old struggled to perform at his best as he averaged 2.1 shots and 0.5 dribbles per 90 minutes in Premier League football. At least, he was decent when distributing the ball in the opponent’s half based on his pass completion rate of 78.2% in league football (stats via whoscored).
Should Chelsea Boss Thomas Tuchel Cut Werner Loose This Summer?
Werner has got decent pace under his belt and can make a few dangerous runs with the ball out on the flanks. He can be a decent finisher in front of the opponent’s goal when he is playing with confidence on the field.
Werner has mainly played as a left-sided wide player but can also fill in as a winger on the right flank or play as a centre-forward if his manager tells him to do so. However, there is no denying that the German speedster has failed to perform at his best at Chelsea since joining from Red Bull Leipzig back in 2020.
Hence, switching clubs could do the player’s confidence a world of good as he is not enjoying his football under Thomas Tuchel‘s stewardship.
At 26, Werner is about to enter his prime. However, following the arrival of Raheem Sterling from Manchester City earlier this summer, he could struggle to get regular playing opportunities at Stamford Bridge if he stays beyond this summer. Thus, it is only fair to the German sensation if the Blues cut him loose and use the money generated from his potential sale to strengthen other areas of their squad before the end of this summer transfer window.
