In a recent print edition, AS offered an update on the future of Aston Villa forward Wesley Moraes. It has been mentioned that the Villans striker, who is currently playing on loan at Internacional, is close to joining Levante on loan in this off-season.
Wesley’s Uneventful Loan Spell In Brazil
Wesley has experienced an unimpressive loan spell with Internacional so far as he has struggled to be consistent with his contributions in front of the opponent’s goal. The 25-year-old has found the back of the net on two occasions in 19 matches for the Brazilian outfit this season in multiple competitions.
The Brazilian sensation caught the eye at times but could only average 0.8 shots, 0.9 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per game in the Brasileirao.
He distributed the ball relatively well after making 76.1% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
Should Aston Villa Boss Steven Gerrard Cut Wesley Loose This Summer?
Wesley can be a decent finisher in the final third when he is playing with confidence on the field. However, he has struggled to find consistency with his overall contributions on the attacking end of the pitch.
At the moment, the Brazilian striker is in dire need of a change of scenery so that he can get some confidence back and regain his form in top-flight football. Thus, it makes sense for him to move to a club like Levante where he might have a shot to play regularly next season.
His current contract with Aston Villa is set to run out in the summer of 2024. Plus, at 25, the Brazilian marksman needs regular playing opportunities if he wants to make the most out of his playing career.
Wesley is currently surplus to requirements at Villa Park as Steven Gerrard has already got Danny Ings and Ollie Watkins in his squad. Thus, it is only fair to the player if the Villans cut him loose this summer. A successful loan move away from the West Midlands club could see the player’s market value increase which would give Gerrard the option to cash in on him next summer.
