Update On Newcastle United’s Pursuit Of This Leeds United Ace: What Should Be Howe’s Play?

In a recent report, The Daily Mail offered an update on Newcastle United and their pursuit of Leeds United ace Jack Harrison. It is understood that the Whites are demanding more than £35m for the English wide player with the Magpies showing interest in recruiting him this summer.

Harrison’s Impressive Form At Elland Road Last Season

Harrison had a decent campaign with the Whites as he helped them narrowly escape relegation from the Premier League. The 25-year-old scored ten goals and picked up two assists in 38 appearances for the West Yorkshire outfit last season in various competitions.

The Stoke-on-Trent-born wing wizard gave a good account of himself by averaging 1.6 tackles, 1.2 shots, 1.2 key passes and 1.5 dribbles per 90 minutes in Premier League football. However, he was a bit untidy with his ball distribution after completing 70.5% of his attempted passes in the English top-flight (stats via whoscored).

What Should Be Newcastle United Boss Howe’s Play With Regards To Harrison?

Harrison is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet and can cause a few problems for the opposition defenders because of his pace. He has got the eye to play a decisive pass in the final third and can chip in by scoring a few important goals for his team. The English sensation is primarily a left-sided wide player but can also serve as a right-winger if needed.

Someone of Harrison’s quality would be a brilliant addition to Newcastle‘s squad as he will add more goals and creativity to Eddie Howe‘s attack. He is good enough to become a fan favorite at Tyneside as long as he continues to improve his offensive numbers with each year.

At 25, Harrison’s peak years are ahead of him which makes him a decent option for the Magpies to pursue in this off-season. He has got enough Premier League experience by now to make an immediate impact at the Tyneside club.

Newcastle have now got the financial strength to meet Leeds’ demands for the talented winger. All in all, Howe should think about making another offer to bring Harrison to St. James’ Park before the start of the new campaign.
