In a recent interview with Give Me Sport, journalist Dean Jones offered an update on Arsenal and their pursuit of Leicester City midfield ace Youri Tielemans. Jones said,
“Arsenal have definitely made inroads on this transfer, down to trying to discover what personal terms would be needed.”

The Belgian sensation was responsible for performing at a high level at the heart of the Leicester midfield but struggled to help his team pick up results consistently in the Premier League. Tielemans registered seven goals and grabbed five assists in 50 appearances for the Foxes last season in multiple competitions.
The 25-year-old managed to catch the eye by averaging 2.3 tackles, 0.7 interceptions, 1.1 clearances, 1.8 shots, 1.2 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He was even accurate with his ball distribution after completing 83.5% of his attempted passes in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).

Tielemans can get stuck in with some solid tackles and can make a few timely interceptions at the centre of the park. He doesn’t mind clearing the danger when required and usually works his socks off in chasing the opposition down in midfield.
The Belgian international is proficient at making some intelligent runs with the ball and can even set up a few meaningful openings for others around him in the final third. He can even strike the ball with power and accuracy from long range and can contribute by scoring and creating his fair share of goals going forward.
We can expect Tielemans to add more quality to Mikel Arteta‘s midfield. He could even help the Gunners get back to the top-four in the Premier League next season. At 25, Tielemans is about to enter his prime, so the North London giants can make the most out of his services over the next few years.
