According to a recent report, Football.London believes that Tottenham Hotspur are to loan out Pape Matar Sarr for another season after an influx of several players in the first team squad. It is understood that Conte’s overhaul in the White Hart Lane has left out several players who would be a surplus to what is needed at the North London club.
Sarr’s Impressive Loan Spell At Metz Last Season
Pape Sarr had a successful loan spell at Metz in his last campaign as he produced a series of dominant displays in the central areas of the field. He managed to score a goal and produce three assists over 33 appearances last season.
The Senegal-born talent established himself as a key player in the Ligue 1 side, performing consistently in the midfield based on his averages of 1.4 tackles, 0.9 interceptions, 0.9 shots, 0.6 key passes and 0.9 dribbles per game in the Ligue 1. He has effectively distributed the ball to his teammates after completing 83.3% of his attempted passes in the French top flight (stats via whoscored).
Should Conte Loan Him Out Or Keep Him At Tottenham Hotspur?
Sarr has a solid presence in the midfield areas as he remains a solid tackler of the ball. He excels at holding on to the ball and distributing possession to his teammates. He can even make a few decent runs down the midfield to create some meaningful opportunities in front of the goal.
At 1.85 m, his tall frame helps him dominate his opponents in the air and he can track down the opposition to stop them in their tracks. He is primarily a central midfielder but remains versatile to feature in the left wing or in the advanced attacking midfield position.
The 19-year-old can become better over the coming years and he has got the potential to be one of the best midfielders in Europe. However, Antonio Conte has brought in a lot of reinforcements to revamp the Spurs’ squad. Many senior first-team players have been purposefully left out of the squad which has travelled to South Korea for the pre-season tour, so it is highly unlikely of Sarr to have an opportunity to showcase his improvement since his last appearance for the Lilywhites.
Conte has kept a close eye on the youth prospects and the youth academy, so it’s fair to say that loaning him out is the most viable option as it does not hinder his growth.
