In a recent report, Express has stated that Tottenham Hotspur may be at risk of missing out on signing their defensive target Kim Min-Jae from Fenerbahce. It is understood that Rennes are closing in on the £20m centre-back after selling Nayef Aguerd to West Ham United which could come as a huge blow to the Lilywhites.
Min-Jae’s Impressive Record For Fenerbahce Last Season
Kim Min-Jae has had a solid campaign last season as he produced a handful of impressive displays on the defensive third of the field. He has managed to score a goal over 37 appearances for the Turkish outfit across all fronts.
The Korean sensation has performed exceptionally in the backline after averaging 1.5 tackles, 2.3 interceptions and 4.1 clearances per game in the Super Lig. He has even been impressive when distributing the ball after completing 89% of his attempted passes in the Turkish first division (stats via whoscored).
Would Missing Out On Him Come As A Huge Blow To Tottenham Hotspur?
Min-Jae remains a solid tackler of the ball and doesn’t hesitate in putting his foot into a tackle to disrupt the opposition’s attack. He can sense the danger quickly and clear his lines when the opponent is on the front foot. Towering at 1.90 m, his strong frame helps him win the aerial battles in his half and he is adept at shielding the ball from the opposition.
The 25-year-old has a solid presence on the defensive end and he remains a force to be reckoned with. The Korean international can play his way out from the back being proficient at distributing the ball to his teammates.
It will come as a huge blow for the Lilywhites if they miss out on him since they have failed to sign Alessandro Bastoni as well. The Spurs have significantly invested in the attacking department but have failed to acquire defensive reinforcements. The North London club looks set to bring in Clement Lenglet on loan but Antonio Conte will have to deduce a plan to add more depth to his backline.
