According to a recent report from Mirror, it is mentioned that Tottenham Hotspur are keen on wrapping up a deal for Villareal centre-back Pau Torres. It is understood that the Lilywhites are working on the loan deal for Clement Lenglet behind the scene to complete their fifth signing this summer but are yet to stop as they remain in pursuit of another defensive reinforcement who could cost around £45m.
Torres’ Impressive Campaign For Villareal Last Season
Torres experienced a solid campaign at the Estadio de la Cerámica as he put in a series of impressive displays in Unai Emery’s central defence. He has found the back of the net six times and created one assist over 47 appearances for the Spanish outfit in the last season across all fronts.
The Spain international has performed consistently on the defensive end of the pitch based on his average of 1.0 tackles, 0.6 interceptions and 3.1 clearances per game in La Liga. He has even been accurate when distributing possession from the back, after completing 85.8% of his attempted passes in the Spanish first division (stats via whoscored).
How Does He Fit Into Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur?
Torres has been a solid presence in the back for Villarreal over the past couple of seasons. He can sense the danger quickly and make some clever interceptions inside his half. Standing at 1.91m, the Spaniard can use his strong frame to dominate his opponent in the air and doesn’t mind clearing his line when the opposition is on the front foot.
The 25-year-old is in his prime and Antonio Conte can utilise his abilities in the back-three system. The Spanish defender is a great leader of men and has proved himself under Unai Emery as he helped Villareal finish in the seventh-place last season.
Pau Torres would be a brilliant addition to the defensive department for the Lilywhites and could help them in their run for the title. Conte would be wise to devise a plan to lure him to the North London club before the start of the next campaign.
