According to a recent report Football.London believes that Tottenham Hotspur could bring in Memphis Depay from Barcelona as a replacement for Steven Bergwijn. It is understood that Conte is doing everything in his capability to bring in reinforcements for every key position in the squad and the Catalan giants could let Depay exit if Spurs meet their demands for a £17million deal.
Depay’s Decent Campaign With Barcelona Last Season
Depay had a fruitful campaign at the Nou Camp as he managed to put in a series of influential displays for Barca in the attacking end. He scored 13 goals and secured two assists over 38 appearances for the Catalan club last season across all fronts.
The 79-time Netherlands international gave a good account of himself after performing consistently based on his average of 2.2 shots, 1.6 key passes and 1.6 dribbles per game in La Liga. He was even tidy with his ball distribution after making 82.1% of his attempted passes in the top tier of Spanish football (stats via whoscored).
Should Conte Bring Him To Tottenham Hotspur?
Memphis Depay excels at generating a yard of space for himself to get a few strikes in on-target. The Dutchman can be a decent finisher inside the opponent’s penalty box when he is playing with confidence on the pitch. He does not mind taking a shot at goal from distance.
The Netherlands international can even set up his teammates in front of the goal. He is usually accurate with his link-up play but needs to improve his productivity in the final third. Depay is primarily a centre-forward but can operate as a left-sided wide player when required, so it makes him a decent replacement for Steven Bergwijn.
Many would question his transfer to Spurs after a series of disappointing displays in English football during his time at Manchester United but Depay still has it in him to play at a high level. With Tottenham looking to compete in the UCL, a player with Champions League experience would be a brilliant addition for Antonio Conte. The Italian tactician could easily meet Barcelona’s demands, so he should bring Depay to the North London club ahead of the next campaign.
