In a recent report, El Larguero claimed that Real Madrid was offered a chance to sign Inter Milan forward Edin Dzeko. It has been revealed that Los Blancos were given the opportunity to land the veteran striker but they decided to decline such a move due to the player’s age.
Dzeko’s Impressive Numbers In Italian Football
The 36-year-old had an impressive campaign with Inter last season when he put in a series of influential performances as the focal point of their attack. Dzeko banged in 17 goals and secured ten assists in 48 matches for the Italian club last season across multiple competitions.
The Bosnia-Herzegovina international can still do a decent job in top-flight football. However, he is an aging forward who won’t satisfy Real Madrid’s need to build for the future as they need a young forward who can succeed Karim Benzema at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium in the long run.
Should Real Madrid Boss Carlo Ancelotti Go Back In For Dzeko?
On his day, Dzeko can still be a deadly finisher in front of the opposition goal. He can create space for himself to get a few shots in on-target and can engineer some decent chances for others around him in the attacking end of the field.
However, he is not getting any younger, so it is likely that his numbers will decline in the coming seasons. Los Blancos are currently looking to build for the future, so it is only logical for them to decline an opportunity to land Dzeko.
At 36, the former Manchester City striker is nearing the end of his playing career. However, he is still good enough to play at the highest level.
Still, Carlo Ancelotti has got Karim Benzema in his squad. Therefore, he doesn’t need someone like Dzeko even though he would have been a good acquisition for the Madrid giants in the short term. However, with the departure of Luka Jovic, who joined Fiorentina earlier this summer, Los Blancos can definitely benefit from signing a young forward during this summer transfer window.
