In a recent report, talkSPORT stated that Newcastle United have set their sights on Burnley winger Maxwel Cornet this summer. It has been mentioned that the Magpies are hoping to bring the Ivory Coast wide player on board before the end of this transfer window.
Cornet’s Impressive Form In English Football Last Season
Cornet had a decent goal-scoring record at Turf Moor despite suffering relegation from the Premier League with the Clarets last season. The 25-year-old banged in nine goals and earned a couple of assists in 29 matches for the Lancashire outfit in the previous campaign in multiple competitions.
The Bregbo-born talent managed to impress in the final third as he averaged 1.8 shots, 0.6 key passes and 0.5 dribbles per game in the Premier League. However, he needs to improve his ball distribution after completing 70.6% of his attempted passes in the English top-flight (stats via whoscored).
What Will Cornet Add To Newcastle United Boss Eddie Howe’s Team?
Cornet is proficient at creating a yard of space for himself to get a few shots in on target. He can create some decent openings for others around him when he is playing well on the field. The Ivory Coast sensation can even make a few decent runs with the ball out on the flanks. However, Cornet needs to improve his link-up play in the final third if he wants to become a world-class winger someday.
At 25, Cornet is about to enter the peak years of his playing career, so Newcastle can expect to get the best out of him in the coming seasons if they can devise a way to get a deal done for him this summer.
We can expect Cornet to add more firepower to Eddie Howe‘s attack at the Tyneside club. He will even offer some much-needed competition for Allan Saint-Maximin for a regular starting spot at St. James’ Park next season. Therefore, Howe has every reason to make a move for the Ivory Coast attacker this summer as he is a winger on the rise and can help the Magpies push for a top-half finish in the Premier League.
