Manchester United Eye £10m Deal For This Brazilian Wonderkid: One For The Future?

Recent reports from The Sun state that Manchester United are keen on signing Palmeiras forward Gabriel Veron in the ongoing transfer window as Erik Ten Hag looks set to add to his attacking options ahead of the 2022/23 season.

With four years left on his contract at the Allianz Parque, the report further states that the player could be available for as little as £10 million this summer. Manchester City and Barcelona are also keen on securing his services.

Having come through the ranks at Palmeiras itself, Gabriel Veron made his debut on 28 November 2019, coming on as a second-half substitute in a 1–0 away defeat to Fluminense. The Brazilian winger holds the records for the second-youngest player to score for the club and the youngest player to score in a Libertadores match. Over the course of the past two years, the 19-year-old has made 93 appearances for Periquito Verde, scoring thirteen goals and assisting thirteen more across all competitions.

He has managed to put up some awe-inspiring numbers on the board this term – averaging 0.9 shots, one key pass, 1.3 tackles and 0.5 interceptions per ninety minutes in the Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A (calculated across 11 appearances). The highly-rated teenager has also featured 16 times for Brazil’s U-17 team (five goals scored) and four times for Brazil’s U-16 team (one goal scored). Often compared to Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus, he has established himself as one of the hottest properties in Brazilian football.

One For The Future?

Irrespective of the red-hot form he is in at the moment, it’s almost sure that Manchester United won’t offer him regular game time in the Premier League or elsewhere, mainly due to his lack of experience at the top level. He might be sent out on successive loan spells to continue his development, which is typical for someone his age.

Perhaps, if United end up signing the winger, he’ll be integral to their future plans.
