In a recent report, Mirror stated that Manchester City are ready to accelerate the signing of Marc Cucurella from Brighton. It is also mentioned that Brighton have set an asking price of £45million for their prized asset after an impressive run of form in the last season.
Cucurella’s Impressive Run Of Form With Brighton & Hove Albion
The 23-year-old’s move from Getafe to Brighton has been an enormous success. He has stood his ground and performed as expected. The Spanish left-back has established himself as one of the key players in the defensive department as he has managed to score 1 goal and create two assists in 38 matches across all fronts.
The U-23 capped Spain international has produced a few influential displays after performing consistently based on his average of 0.5 shots, 0.8 dribbles, 1.2 key passes, 2.7 tackles, 0.9 interceptions and 1.9 clearances per game in the English first division. He has also been impressive in distributing possession, completing 82% of his attempted passes in the Premier League (stats via whoscored).
What Could Cucurella Bring To Manchester City?
Cucurella can use his pace to make a few decent runs with the ball down the left flank. The youngster has adapted to the Premier League and has performed consistently, producing some dominant displays in the defensive third of the field. He can even chip in by setting up his teammates in front of the goal with his vision and impressive passing abilities.
Pep Guardiola has been in pursuit of a left-back to solve their problems in the backline and Cucurella fits the bill perfectly. His arrival at the Etihad stadium would pave the way for Joao Cancelo to play in his preferred position rather than providing cover on the opposite flank.
Kyle Walker has been performing for the Sky Blues for many years now but at 32 he only has a few years left in him. Cucurella could prove to be a brilliant understudy for Walker and could take up his position in the foreseeable future.
All in all, the Spanish defender could make a significant difference by joining the Mancunian giants as they look set to defend the Premier League title and make a run for the UCL trophy.
