In a recent column with Sportskeeda, former Arsenal player Paul Merson urged Liverpool to move in for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham. Merson said,
“I think Liverpool are crying out for a midfield player. I don’t think their midfield is strong enough.
“Jude Bellingham is a good player, and I think he would be a great signing.
“Liverpool are currently relying solely on their full-backs for energy. Thiago’s not a box-to-box midfielder, and Jordan Henderson is another year older.
“They need legs in midfield, and Jude Bellingham could be that box-to-box presence for the side.”
Bellingham’s Excellent Form In Germany Last Season
Bellingham had a sensational campaign at Signal Iduna Park as he produced a series of productive performances for Dortmund at the centre of the park. The talented teenager registered six goals and 14 assists in 43 appearances for the German club last season on all fronts.
The 19-year-old was a consistent performer at the heart of the Dortmund midfield after he averaged 1.6 tackles, 1.3 interceptions, 0.9 clearances, 1.4 shots, 1.2 interceptions and 1.7 dribbles per game in Bundesliga football. He was even accurate when distributing the ball from midfield, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 83.7% in league football (stats via whoscored).

Bellingham is an energetic midfielder who can influence the game at both ends of the field. He can offer decent protection for his teammates and is proficient at chasing the opposition down at the centre of the park.
The English prospect has got the vision to create a few decent chances for his teammates in the opponent’s half and can even chip in by netting some important goals for his side.
At 19, Bellingham has established himself as one of the most promising young midfielders in Europe, so Liverpool will do well to listen to Merson’s advice by moving in for him this summer.
Bellingham will enhance the quality of Jurgen Klopp‘s midfield at Anfield and could go on to become a future superstar in England. All in all, the Dortmund whizkid will be a dream option for the Reds to consider during this summer transfer window.
