In a recent report, The Daily Mail stated that Liverpool have received a £16m offer for Neco Williams this summer. It has been mentioned that Nottingham Forest have made an improved £16m bid to sign the Wales international from the Reds in this off-season.
Williams’ Impressive Loan Spell At Craven Cottage
Williams had a productive loan spell at Fulham recently after he managed to put in a few impressive displays on the right side of the Cottagers’ defence. The 21-year-old registered two goals and two assists in 15 matches for the London side last season in all competitions.
The Welsh sensation performed well to average 2.6 tackles, 1.3 interceptions, 1.6 clearances, 1.4 shots, 1.0 key passes and 1.4 dribbles per 90 minutes in EFL Championship football. He was even excellent when distributing possession from the right flank, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 82.9% in the second tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
Should Liverpool Boss Jurgen Klopp Cash In On Williams This Summer?
Williams is a solid tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to earn the ball back for his team on the defensive end of the field. He is primarily a right-back but can also fill in as a right-sided wide player or as a left-back if needed.
The 21-time Wales international can even make a few driving runs with the ball down the right wing and can create some clear-cut chances for his teammates in the final third.
However, Williams is simply not good enough to rival Trent Alexander-Arnold for a regular starting spot at Anfield next season. Furthermore, the arrival of Calvin Ramsay won’t do his first-team chances any good if he decides to stay at Merseyside beyond this summer. The Wrexham-born full-back is in dire need to play regular first-team football if he wants to improve in the coming seasons.
Therefore, it makes sense for Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp to cash in on Williams this summer as he is currently surplus to requirements at the Merseyside club. At 21, the Welsh talent has got a bright future ahead of him but it seems like his time with Liverpool will come to an end sooner rather than later.
