In a recent print edition, AS revealed that Liverpool are eyeing a move for Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams. It is believed that the Reds are closely monitoring the Spanish talent’s progress at the San Mames Stadium.
Williams’ Up And Down Campaign In Spain
Williams put in some impressive displays for Bilbao last season but played a bit-part role for them in La Liga. The 20-year-old scored three times in 39 matches for the Spanish side in the previous campaign on all fronts.
The talented wide player made most of his league appearances off the bench but performed well to average 1.0 shots, 0.5 key passes and 1.3 dribbles per 90 minutes in La Liga. He even took care of the ball well when distributing the ball from the back, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 78.1% in league football (stats via whoscored).
What Will Williams Bring To Liverpool?
Williams is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make some clever runs out on the wide areas. He can strike the ball well from long range and can even set up some meaningful openings for his teammates.
Williams is primarily a right-winger but can even play as a left-sided wide player if his manager tells him to do so. However, the Spanish whizkid is still quite inexperienced and would need time to establish himself at the highest level.
Still, there is no doubt that Williams has the potential to become a world-class winger someday, so the Reds would do well to bring him on board in the future.
At 20, the future is quite bright for the promising wide player as long as he continues to improve himself with each year. Therefore, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp should think about engineering a move to lure him to Anfield.
We can expect Williams to bring more depth to the Merseyside club’s attack. He could even help the Reds compete for even more major trophies over the next decade. All in all, it makes a lot of sense for Liverpool to acquire the services of the Spaniard and bolster their attacking options for the long run in the process.
