In a recent report, Fichajes claimed that Liverpool are among clubs hoping to land Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams this summer. It is understood that the Reds are set to rival Manchester United in pursuit of the Spanish wide player in this off-season.
Williams’ Impressive Rise In Spanish Football Last Season
Williams was a sporadic presence in Bilbao’s squad in the previous campaign but managed to put in a few eye-catching displays in the final third. The Pamplona-born talent featured in 39 matches for the Spanish club last season, netting three goals in the process across all fronts.
The 19-year-old made most of his appearances off the bench but did well to average 1.0 shots, 0.5 key passes and 1.3 dribbles per 90 minutes in La Liga. Williams has even been tidy when distributing the ball in the opponent’s half after completing 78.1% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
Is Williams A Good Choice For Liverpool Boss Jurgen Klopp?
Williams is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make some clever runs out on the wide areas. He has got the eye to play a good pass in the final third and can score the odd goal when he is playing with confidence on the field. Williams mainly operates as a right-sided wide player but can function as a left-winger if required.
However, the Spanish prospect is still quite raw and would need time before he can adjust to life in Premier League football if Liverpool manage to get him on board this summer.
At 19, Williams has got a bright future ahead of him, so he will be a good choice for the Reds to pursue ahead of the new campaign. He is already good enough to serve as a decent squad player at Anfield.
