In a recent report, The Evening Standard mentioned that PSV Eindhoven winger Cody Gakpo is on the radar of Arsenal. It has been claimed that the Gunners have identified the Dutch attacker as a target.
Gakpo’s Excellent Numbers In Dutch Football
Gakpo had a brilliant campaign at the Philips Stadium after he put in a series of influential displays as the spearhead of PSV’s attack. The 23-year-old banged in 21 goals and picked up 15 assists in 46 matches for the Dutch outfit last season in multiple competitions.
The Dutch sensation led the line well in the attacking end of the field by averaging 3.0 shots, 2.6 key passes and 2.9 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Dutch Eredivisie. He was even accurate when linking up play with others around him in the final third based on his pass completion rate of 77.2% in the Dutch first division (stats via whoscored).
Should Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta Move In For Gakpo This Summer?
Gakpo excels at generating a yard of space for himself to get a few shots in on-target. He can make a few intelligent runs with the ball in behind the opponent’s backline. The Dutch wide player also doesn’t shy away from setting up some decent chances for others around him in the final third. He is primarily a left-sided wide player but can even operate as a right-winger or as a striker down the middle if his manager needs him to do so.
At 23, Gakpo is playing some of the best football of his young career. Therefore, he will be a decent choice for the Gunners this summer.
We can expect Gakpo to add more firepower to Mikel Arteta‘s frontline and increase competition for places within his match-day squad.
The Dutch talent has what it takes to help the North London club earn a top-four finish in the Premier League if he can make a smooth transition to life in England. Hence, Arteta should consider moving in for Gakpo in this off-season as he has the potential to become a real fan favorite at the Emirates Stadium in the coming seasons.
