In a recent tweet, Bild journalist Christian Falk revealed that Chelsea want to land Barcelona midfielder Frenkie De Jong this summer. It has been claimed that the Blues are showing interest in recruiting the Dutch midfield ace if N’Golo Kante refuses to pen a new deal with the West London club.
TRUE✅ @ChelseaFC is interested in Frenkie de Jong (25) if N'Golo Kanté (31) doesn‘t sign a new contract (at the moment til 2023). Bayern is not interested in de Jong for this summer @FCBarcelona

De Jong’s Impressive Form In Spanish Football Last Season
De Jong had a solid season at the Nou Camp and was one of the most consistent performers in Xavi’s first XI. The Arkel-born sensation scored four goals and earned five assists in 45 appearances for the Catalan club in the previous campaign across multiple competitions.
The Dutch talent gave a good account of himself at the centre of the park after he averaged 1.1 tackles, 0.6 interceptions, 0.5 shots, 1.3 key passes and 1.6 dribbles per 90 minutes in La Liga football. The 25-year-old was even accurate when distributing the ball from midfield, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 91.3% in the Spanish first division (stats via whoscored).
What Will De Jong Bring To Chelsea?
De Jong can get stuck in with some solid tackles to make life tough for the opposition and has got the vision to orchestrate a few decent chances for his teammates in the final third. The Dutch sensation can even chip in by scoring a handful of important goals for his team in the final third. He hardly gives away the ball cheaply when passing it in the opposition half.
At 25, De Jong has his best years ahead of him which could be why Chelsea are now eyeing a move for him this summer. The Barca star has what it takes to serve as an ideal replacement for N’Golo Kante who is in the final year of his contract at Stamford Bridge.
De Jong will bring some goals and creativity to Thomas Tuchel‘s midfield and is good enough to secure a regular starting spot at the West London club in the coming seasons. Hence, the Blues should try everything they can to lure him to England during this summer transfer period.
