In a recent report, The Daily Mail mentioned that Chelsea are set to complete the signing of Brighton and Hove Albion starlet Zak Sturge this summer. It has been claimed that the Blues are on the verge of winning the race to land the English youngster in this off-season.
Sturge’s Recent Rise At Brighton
The talented full-back came through the youth ranks of Brighton and managed to establish himself as a key member of their Under-18 side.
Sturge has made 41 appearances for the Seagulls’ U-18 team thus far, picking up five assists across all fronts. The teenage left-back has also managed to play in three matches for Brighton’s Under-23 side recently.
The English starlet has the potential to become a world-class player in his position someday. Therefore, it is no surprise that Chelsea have moved quickly to sign him on a free transfer this summer.
Chelsea Set To Sign Sturge Soon: Is He A Prospect For The Future?
Sturge can be a solid defender at the back when he is playing with confidence on the pitch. He is a decent crosser of the ball and can engineer some meaningful chances for his teammates in the attacking end of the field. Sturge is primarily a left-back but can also fill in as a left-sided wide player if his manager needs him to do so.
The English talent is a player on the rise, so the Blues will do well to snap him up during this summer transfer period. At 18, he is still quite inexperienced and would need time to make the jump to first-team football. There are also some question marks over whether he would be able to handle the expectations surrounding a move to Chelsea.
Still, there is no doubt that Sturge will be a great signing for the Blues in the long run. He could grow into a future star at Stamford Bridge under the stewardship of Thomas Tuchel.
Sturge is definitely a prospect to watch out for in the future. His ceiling is sky-high which makes him a decent, long-term signing for the West London outfit ahead of the new season.
