In a recent tweet, Bild journalist Christian Falk mentioned that Chelsea are eyeing a move for Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard this summer. It has been claimed that the Blues have identified the French full-back as a target for this summer transfer window.

Pavard’s Solid Season In German Football
Pavard had a decent campaign at the Allianz Arena as he managed to produce a handful of impressive displays on the right side of Bayern’s defence. The 26-year-old was involved in 36 matches for the Bavarian giants last season, securing a couple of assists in all competitions.
The French talent was a solid defender at the back after he averaged 1.4 tackles, 1.4 interceptions, 2.0 clearances, 0.7 shots and 0.7 key passes per 90 minutes in the Bundesliga. He even took care of possession when distributing the ball based on his pass completion rate of 88.1% in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
Is Pavard A Good Fit For Chelsea Boss Thomas Tuchel?
Pavard is a solid tackler of the ball and can make a few timely interceptions for his side when defending inside his half. He usually clears the danger when the opposition are on the front foot.
The Frenchman can shoot the ball well from long range and can orchestrate some decent chances for his teammates up top. He hardly gives away the ball cheaply which makes him one of the most reliable performers in Bayern’s first XI. Furthermore, Pavard is primarily a right-back but can also fill in at left-back or operate as a centre-back if required.
Therefore, it is only logical for a club like Chelsea to move in for him this summer. The Blues can definitely use someone of Pavard’s skillset to strengthen their backline ahead of the new campaign.
At 26, the French sensation is entering his prime which makes him a good fit for the West London club as they need a new full-back with Cesar Azpilicueta entering the final year of his Chelsea contract. Pavard fits the bill perfectly as he is well-equipped to make an instant impact at Stamford Bridge if Thomas Tuchel can devise a way to get him on board in this off-season.
