In a recent report, The Mirror mentioned that Aston Villa youngster Carney Chukwuemeka is on the radar of Paris Saint-Germain. It has been claimed that PSG have now joined the chase to recruit the English midfield ace from the Villans this summer.
Chukwuemeka’s Impressive Rise At Villa Park
Chukwuemeka has come through the youth ranks of Aston Villa and had done well to break into Steven Gerrard’s starting XI last season. The talented teenager made 18 appearances for the Villans in the previous campaign, picking up one assist in multiple competitions.
The 18-year-old saw most of his game time come off the bench which could be why he averaged 0.6 tackles and 0.5 dribbles per game in Premier League football. He was at least accurate when interchanging possession from midfield after making 81.7% of his attempted passes in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
Should Aston Villa Boss Steven Gerrard Cash In On Chukwuemeka This Summer?
Chukwuemeka can make some crunching tackles to make life tough for the opposition at the centre of the park. He can even make a few powerful runs with the ball from midfield and can be a real handful for the opposition midfielders.
At the moment, Chukwuemeka needs to ensure regular playing time at the highest level. At 18, the English talent has got a very bright future ahead of him. However, he is still quite inexperienced at the highest level and is not ready to feature for the Villans in Premier League football week in week out.
His current contract at Villa Park is set to run out in the summer of 2023, so it makes sense for the West Midlands club to cash in on him rather than risk losing him as a free agent at the end of next season.
If a top club like PSG decide to move in for Chukwuemeka, Aston Villa will find it difficult to keep hold of him beyond this summer. Therefore, Gerrard should consider cashing in on the English whizkid during this transfer window and use the money generated from his potential sale to strengthen other areas of his match-day squad.
